WEST CHESTER UNIVERSITY
GRADUATE SOCIAL WORK DEPARTMENT
MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK PROGRAM
The
Graduate Social Work Department expects to graduate professionals
who think critically, communicate effectively, appreciate diversity,
are competent to practice, and are committed to life-long learning,
scholarly research, and evaluation of their practice. With a
concentration in direct practice with individuals, families,
and communities, graduates from our program are prepared for
theory-integrated practice in numerous public and private social
service settings whether it be with individuals in personal crisis;
families coping with loss, restructuring, or stress overload;
or communities striving for autonomy.
The program consists of 54 semester hours
of core content plus six addition hours of electives. The program
can be completed within two years (full-time option) or four
years (part-time option). These regular full-time and part-time
options begin in the Fall semester. An advanced-standing plan
recognizes the achievement of outstanding B.S.W. graduates, who
graduated from Council on Social Work Education-accredited programs
within the past five years with an overall grade point average
of 3.0 and 3.25 in the social work major. Advanced standing has
a full-time one-year option and a part-time two-year option.
Both advanced standing options begin in May with two summer sessions
followed by either two or four academic year semesters.
